Dr. Vandana Shiva is a global visionary on secure and sustainable food. Below are a collection of videos – watch with courage and consider why the simple act of shopping at a farmers’ market places the power back in our hands – our right to grow our own food – the farmers’ right to grow their own seeds to feed us.
Just a quick note to apologize to everyone for the farmers’ market site being down so long. We were hacked months ago and it took some time to clean up and re-launch. As you may or may not know, the North Oshawa Farmers’ Market is not-for-profit. It is run by vendors and community volunteers – myself (Kirk) included.
Contrary to a few rumours I’ve heard, the North Oshawa Farmers’ Market is alive and well. In fact, we’re poised for our best season yet.
I hope to see you all starting May 19, 2012 at Legend’s Centre. Every Saturday from 8:00 – 1:00.
On August 20th we hosted our 2nd Annual Corn Roast at the North Oshawa Farmers’ Market. Corn was generously donated by Kevin Fisher of Fisher Farms and we cooked and and gave out over 700 free corn. Our guests generously donated $833.24 which went directly to Feed the Need in Durham. Ontario Motor Sales donated prizes for larger donations, LA Tunes played their soothing folk music and Kayla Hutchuk (Ed Hutchuk HomeLife Realty volunteer) and Dianna Parkin (TD Bank volunteer) sang entertaining “Corn Roast” chants while handing out free corn. Maple the Cow was also a hit as many kids milked her with big smiles on their faces. Their were familiar faces as well as many new faces; we welcome all of you back on a regular basis.

Last week Broken Arts, a young group of local entertainers played at the North Oshawa Farmers’ Market. Every review was that they were an absolute smash hit – a wonderful addition to the market. We couldn’t be more happy with the young and very talented musicians who played for hours last week. We’re hoping to have them back again. We’re also hoping to have more involvement from local artists and community groups in the coming weeks and months.
Supporting the market is supporting the culture of the community, not just the farmers. Let’s make the North Oshawa Farmers’ Market the community hub. Come as often as you can so we can grow bigger and more interesting.
Welcome to an all new season at the north Oshawa Farmers’ Market!
This Saturday May 21st marks the first day of our second season providing quality local fruit, vegetables, meat, honey and more. We will be featuring your favorite vendors from last season as well as some new faces. So come on out and see what all the buzz is about!
We are located in the parking lot of the Legends Centre every Saturday until the end of October from 8am to 1pm.
Bring your friends, a few dollars (no cards accepted) and some re-usable shopping bags.

We will be reviewing last year’s successes and challenges as well as looking forward to what this coming market season has in store.
